The Mill Newsletter - Christmas 2009

Where has the year gone - I can’t believe I am writing the Christmas newsletter already!

In spite of all the doom and gloom we have had a brilliant year-our busiest ever.

It seems that people have been staying at home more, enjoying the gorgeous New Forest and surrounding areas instead of battling with airports!

Our boys in the kitchen just seem to get better and better-using local produce wherever possible, New Forest pork and game, local free range eggs, award winning Sway goat’s cheese, Isle of Wight

Blue, Solent fish and shellfish and as much local and organic fruit and vegetables we can. We are very proud that our menus are reflecting this more and more.

We have been busy as usual making improvements-we have redecorated the reception area, spruced up a couple of bedrooms but the best thing of all has been our ‘Sculptures in the Garden’ started off in June in conjunction with Lymington Art week - proved so popular our lovely sculptures (by Michael Turner, Annie Jefferies, Sam Lord and Dick Budden) decided to leave everything in place!

We are adding different pieces all the time. We are particularly proud of a magnificent bronze peacock by Geoffrey Dashwood- a renowned Bronze sculptor who exhibits all over the world. We have just finished an art exhibition by 4 local ladies and plan to do more next year.

We had a lovely evening at Wentworth Golf club last week -where we were thrilled to win the Tourism Excellence Gold award for the best Sustainable business in the South East and highly commended in the best small hotel category- brilliant evening, great fun. We were all very proud!

Dates for your Diary

Christmas menu will be starting on Monday 30th November-our 8th year!!

Wednesday December 9th-Lymington Chamber of Commerce have come up with the brilliant idea

of a Christmas Fare in Lymington High Street involving lots of local businesses. We have taken a stall to sell our ‘Crispie’ (our famous pet duck)   wares including our new Crispie Children’s Story

book! (She has been a little broody and temperamental this year. So we decided to give her a break from her busy schedule-but hopefully ‘Crispie’ will make guest appearances on the day!)  Instead of our usual calendar we have produced a gorgeous illustrated story book.–mind you I would say that as my daughter illustrated it!

Crispie Duck – “Her first years”

Children’s Story Book £5

£2 from each book sale is going to The Piam Brown Ward.

The Piam Brown Ward is the Wessex Paediatric Oncology Centre - based
at Southampton General Hospital, treating all types of childhood cancer in
the age range of a day old to eighteen years of age.

(Also just in time for Christmas our new line of Crispie doorstops in Green or Purple velvet.)

Sunday 10th January 7.30pm -The annual Liz and Maggie birthday bash! (Maggie’s almost caught me up she is 50 this year!!) - live music with our great soul/motown duo-all welcome no need to book

Closing for essential repairs 11th January – 14th January- we need to refurbish the ladies and gents and all sorts of messy jobs that are best done when we are closed (also need to recover from the party).

Wine tasting in January- date to be confirmed. Siefried Estate, Nelson a great New Zealand vineyard. New to our list but some gorgeous wines. Details to be confirmed,

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas and a really happy New Year!!

Kindest Regards,

Liz and all the crew
